Web Design Process
Although every website I build is different, the overall process for designing and developing them is virtually the same. Over the last 15+ years, I have honed a process that is simple, organised and stress-free for my clients. Here’s an outline of that process:
1. Research & Planning

Before any design work begins, we’ll discuss your goals, target audience and what you want your website to achieve. I’ll review your existing site (if one exists), plus your content and branding, and then outline a proposal that fits your requirements and budget.
- An initial consultation/questionnaire to understand your goals
- A review of content, brand and competitors
- Defining the new website structure and functionality
- Producing a clear project proposal and timeline
2. Design & Content
Once the proposal has been agreed upon and signed off, I’ll start designing the look and feel of your website. You’ll have the chance to review and give feedback before anything moves into development.
- Visual design concepts and layout mockups
- Creating intuitive navigation and ensuring accessibility
- Collaborative feedback and revisions
- Support with content structure and copy if needed
3. Development
With the design approved, I’ll build the site in WordPress using custom code to create its functionality and theme. The backend is built to be easy for you to manage, without unnecessary plugins or clutter.
- Custom WordPress theme development
- Build & testing of all custom functionality
- Optimising for speed and accessibility
- Testing across devices and browsers
4. Testing & Launch
Before launch, every website is tested for errors, speed and stability. Once everything has been approved, I finalise the technical setup to ensure a smooth launch.
- Domain and hosting setup
- SEO and analytics integration
- Client CMS walkthroughs and training if required
- Post-launch support for any issues
5. Ongoing Care
After launch I offer ongoing maintenance packages to keep your website running smoothly, backed up and up to date. These monthly plans include:
- Monthly updates, backups and security checks
- Performance optimisation and monitoring
- Priority support and quick fixes
